DC Comics is having another big facelift come June when the publisher introduces 24 new titles with a focus on diversity….
When DC Comics introduced the ‘New 52’ in 2011, the idea was the make long time comics more accessible to new fans who hadn’t followed story continuity for a particular book or character for years while essentially resetting the entire universe.
Well another major change is about to kick off following DC’s latest crossover event titled ‘Convergence’, which will see all of the comic books in the company’s line go on a two month hiatus before restarting things in June.
Starting June 3, DC Comics will launch a total of 49 books — 25 ongoing series along with 24 brand new series — with a focus on diversity as well as an aim to make storytelling a priority instead of continuity.
“This heralds in a new era for the DC Universe which will allow us to publish something for everyone, be more expansive and modern in our approach and tell stories that better reflect the society around us,” DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio said in a press release on Friday. “Whether you’ve been a DC fan your whole life, or whether you are new to comics—there will be a book for you beginning in June.”
The storylines and characters from the New 52 aren’t going away, but instead the concept itself is fading as DC looks to build upon core characters and create new and exciting content to draw readers in. DC will also diversify the writing and art staff with a ton of new talent and established veterans joining the team.
