‘Deadpool 2’ continues to search for the best actor to play Cable and now there’s a new leading contender in the pack….
‘Deadpool 2’ has found another frontrunner to play the coveted role of Cable.
Michael Shannon — best known for his roles in ‘Boardwalk Empire’ as well as ‘Man of Steel’ and his Oscar nominated role in ‘Nocturnal Animals’ — has emerged as the top choice for the role of Cable in the ‘Deadpool’ sequel.
Now it’s very important to note that no deal has been struck and the biggest obstacle standing in the way could be scheduling with Shannon already committed to another film ready to shoot in the sprint.
That being said, Shannon has apparently been the top choice to fill the role of Cable for the past week. ‘Stranger Things’ star David Harbour was another early choice in the casting process and he remains on the short list as well.
In the comics, Cable is the mutant son of X-Men leader Scott Summers, who is sent into the future when he’s infected with a deadly virus that can only be solved by technology far more advanced than what’s in present day. Cable returns to this timeline and becomes the leader of the mutant faction known as X-Force and has teamed up with Deadpool on numerous occasions in the past.
‘Deadpool 2’ will star Ryan Reynolds in the lead role with ‘Atlanta’ star Zazie Beetz recently being cast in another coveted role as mutant mercenary Domino.
There’s no word on when an announcement will be made regarding casting for Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’ but with production expected to kick off this year it’s likely to be at any time.
