Marvel’s upcoming film Doctor Strange has taken notice of Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen for a role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch…
Mads Mikkelsen — best known for portraying Hannibal Lecter in the NBC series Hannibal — is about to receive an offer to play a villainous role in the upcoming Marvel feature film Doctor Strange.
According to Variety, early talks are ongoing between the studio and Mikkelsen to bring him into the Marvel fold where he would likely play a villain opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the movie.
Cumberbatch is playing Doctor Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who is eventually chosen and transformed into the Sorcerer Supreme — a being commissioned with protecting the Earth from all things magical and mystical.
There’s no word on who Mikkelsen might be playing, but early rumors are he would be going against Doctor Strange in the movie.
Chiwetel Ejiofor is already on board to play Baron Mordo, a long time rival and enemy of Doctor Strange as well, so it’s unclear if Mikkelsen would possibly play another villain or maybe a secondary character who would then step up to battle Cumberbatch in the sequel (assuming there’s a sequel).
Either way, if the deal goes through Marvel will likely make the announcement official in the coming weeks.
