The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get magical with Doctor Strange set for release in 2016 and we’ve finally got photos…
Marvel will officially enter the magic business in 2016 with the release of Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role.
The first photos of Cumberbatch dressed as Dr. Stephen Strange debuted today courtesy of Entertainment Weekly along with a few details about the characters who will debut in the movie when it lands in theaters on November 4, 2016.
One of the biggest reveals is that Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen will portray the main villain in the film although Marvel executives weren’t ready to say which character from the comic book universe he’ll be playing. The details seem rather hush-hush but Marvel studio head Kevin Feige gave away a little bit about what to expect from Mikkelsen in Doctor Strange.
“Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect,” Feige said. “[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”
Doctor Strange will also introduce the Marvel multi-verse, which is a new concept for the cinematic universe and those new dimensions could play a huge role in the upcoming Avengers sequels Infinity War parts one and two.
“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there — wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie. But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions,” Feige said.
The movie is still nearly a year away from release but for now take a look at these first photos from Doctor Strange
