DC has decided to give Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson his own starring franchise as Black Adam…
A major change has been made to the long gestating superhero project surrounding ‘Shazam’ and megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was slated to play villain Black Adam in the movie.
It seems after Johnson sat down for a recent meeting with executives at DC and New Line Cinema, the powers that be decided that his star power was too great to only showcase him as a villain opposite ‘Shazam’.
So now plans have changed dramatically with Johnson being given his own film for ‘Black Adam’ completely independent and separate from the ‘Shazam’ movie that’s been in development for the better part of the last decade.
Throughout comic book history, Black Adam has been the main nemesis for Shazam — a hero who transforms from a teenage boy into a superpowered being after uttering the word Shazam! — but now he’ll get his own origin story starring Johnson.
In recent years, DC Comics has slightly shifted Black Adam to more of an anti-hero with a history that includes seeking vengeance against anyone who enslaved his people after growing up a slave himself.
There’s no word on how DC will handle the origin story for ‘Black Adam’ the movie, but now he’ll be getting his own solo project with Johnson attached to star.
