Emma Stone: Gwen Stacy’s Story Will Be Told ‘As Closely to the Comic As Possible’

Amazing Spider-Man 2 actress Emma Stone says that her character Gwen Stacy will be kept as close to the comic book version as possible, which could only mean one thing…

Comic book and movie goers hate spoilers but at the same time we all want to know what’s going to happen next.  Just because George R.R. Martin kills off characters like Rambo offs communists and we know about it ahead of time because of the books doesn’t make Game of Thrones any less awesome.

So it should come as no surprise that actress Emma Stone making a vague reference to how her character’s story in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘ will come full circle is a very buzz worthy story right now.

Stone appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show where she divulged a little bit of information about her character and the film’s sequel that opens later this year.

“I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story has closely to the comic as possible,” Stone said.

Now for fans of the Spider-Man comic book series (at least the original version, not the Ultimate one that came along later), Stone’s reference can probably only mean one thing.  Major spoilers ahead for those that haven’t heard what happens to Gwen Stacy.

In one of the most iconic scenes in comic book history, Gwen Stacy dies in Amazing Spider Man issue No. 121 after she is tossed off a bridge courtesy of The Green Goblin and Spider-Man attempts to save her.  Unfortunately, despite all the powers in the world, Spider-Man can’t save his gal pal and she dies in his arms.

Another reason Stone’s words may be prophetic for the upcoming movie is an outfit she was spotted wearing during filming for the movie last year, which mimicked the exact clothes Gwen Stacy was wearing in that iconic issue of Amazing Spider-Man

This potential spoiler just ratchets up the intensity ahead of the movie’s release — The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lands in theaters on May 2.
