The next chapter of The Shining will unfold in the sequel titled Doctor Sleep and Ewan McGregor has just signed onto star in the movie…
Ewan McGregor will portray an adult Danny Torrance in the upcoming sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining with the next chapter called Doctor Sleep.
Based in the 2013 novel by King, Doctor Sleep finds a middle-aged Danny Torrance still haunted by the ghosts that he first met at the Overlook Hotel when he was just a child. Following the same patterns as his father, Danny is an angry alcoholic who finally decides to clean his life up when he finds peace while working as a hospice nurse where he uses his psychic powers to help console dying patients before being drawn back into another battle against evil forces when he’s called to help another girl with similar ‘shining’ ability to his own.
Now it’s unclear at this time if Doctor Sleep will follow closer to King’s original novels or attempt to act as a direct sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1977 film The Shining.
What we do know is Mike Flanagan — who directed Oculus as well as the recent Stephen King adaptation Gerald’s Game — will be the one leading the way on Doctor Sleep.
Doctor Sleep is expected to land in theaters on January 24, 2020.
