‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Actor Explains Reason Behind Asking to Leave the Show

A shocking death took place on the latest episode of Fear the Walking Dead but it turns out the actor involved asked to leave the show…

It’s never a surprise when somebody dies on either Fear the Walking Dead or it’s sister show The Walking Dead, but it’s still a little shocking when an original cast member perishes.

That was the case this week as Nick (played by Frank Dillane) met his demise after he was shot in the chest by a little girl named Charlie, who he had befriended and looked after when she was taken in by his group only to find out that she was a spy for a roaming group of bad guys known as the Vultures.

Sadly Nick expired in the arms of his sister and friends as he leaves the show just three episodes into season four.

As it turns out, while Dillane will still be appearing on Fear the Walking Dead in flashbacks, he had actually requested to be written off the show as the fourth season got underway.

“I had been doing it for three or four years, the show has undergone many changes in terms of different people in charge, all of this stuff, and I just felt like the beginning of this season kind of felt like the end of an era with this show,” Dillane explained when speaking to EW. “And television is hard work, and you have to shoot a lot. I also missed Europe very much. I’m not American, so after a while I get quite homesick and all of those things.
“I also felt like we had achieved what needed to be achieved in the first few seasons, so I thought it was time to keep moving.”

Dillane says after several years playing the same character, he was also just ready to move onto new endeavors and different projects away from Fear the Walking Dead.

“I had been playing Nick for four years and I was ready to play some different characters,” Dillane stated.

From the sound of things, Dillane wasn’t all that excited about the change in leadership on the series after original show runner Dave Erickson exited in favor of Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss, who took over with season four. Scott Gimple also took on a larger role with the show as he became the executive producer over both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.

Ultimately, Fear the Walking Dead granted Dillane’s request to be written off the show as he now exits in the midst of the fourth season. As previously stated, Dillane will still pop up in flashbacks throughout the season but his death has been confirmed and his exit is completed as he officially leaves Fear the Walking Dead.

Fear the Walking Dead season four continues on Sunday nights at 9pm ET on AMC.
