‘Fear the Walking Dead’ has officially kicked off production and creator Robert Kirkman gives a few clues about the new show launching this summer…
There are a few things you’ll need to know about ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ — the spinoff series from ratings king ‘The Walking Dead’ — that will launch this summer from AMC.
First of all even if you’ve never seen a single frame of ‘The Walking Dead’, you’ll be able to follow along with ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ because it has no relation whatsoever to the primary series that also runs on AMC (season 6 debuts in October).
No characters are crossing over, there won’t be tributes paid to the other show to confuse viewers, and it actually takes place in Los Angeles, which is thousands of miles away from the main show which is set currently just outside of Washington D.C.
“I think the coolest thing about this show is that it tells its own story,” Robertt Kirkman, creator of ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ said recently at the start of production. “You don’t need to watch ‘The Walking Dead’ to understand ‘Fear the Walking Dead'”
The original series ‘The Walking Dead’ was based on comic books written by Kirkman that are still going strong to this day. The new show ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ has no basis at all except for the minds working on the series, which include Kirkman and show runner Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy, Low Winter Sun).
The really interesting twist to the new series starring Cliff Curtis and Kim Dickens in the lead roles is ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ will take place as the zombie plague first hits Los Angeles and the rest of the world.
When we picked up on ‘The Walking Dead’, most of the mayhem had already died down from the initial outbreak of the dead coming back to life, but on ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ we will see firsthand what happened when the zombies took over the world, one bite at a time.
“As far as the timeline goes, we’re pushing things back,” Kirkman said. “We’re going to be dealing with the initial start of the outbreak.”
It should be interesting to see how the world reacts to the zombie outbreak in those initial days as the military and local law enforcement try to stamp down the undead while we already know it’s very much a losing effort.
‘Fear the Walking Dead’ is in production now and will debut on AMC with a six episode first season later this Summer.
