Veteran actor Ron Glass — who played Shepherd Book in the short lived yet beloved Joss Whedon series ‘Firefly’ — has passed away at the age of 71.
Glass’ representatives confirmed news of his passing on Saturday due to respiratory failure.
Glass got his start in acting with several minor roles in comedy series such as ‘All in the Family’ and Sanford and Son’ before landing a gig on the popular TV show ‘Barney Miller’ where he played Detective Ron Harris for eight seasons.
In 2002, Glass was cast as Shepherd Book on ‘Firefly’ where he appeared on the lone season of the show before reprising his role in the 2005 film ‘Serenity’.
In the past few years, Glass has made several appearances on several television shows including a two-episode arc on Marvel’s ‘Agents of SHIELD’.
Many of Glass’ co-stars from ‘Firefly’ sent out messages of support and remembrance on Saturday after news of his passing became public.
He got there with grace, humor & enormous heart. He was, among so many other things, my Shepherd. Raise, appropriately, a glass. Rest, Ron. pic.twitter.com/yzPly7TmgE
