Sigourney Weaver will play the villain opposing ‘The Defenders’ in the limited series due out on Netflix later this year…
It’s going to take an awfully powerful villain to force Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to team up together, but that’s exactly the kind of big bad Marvel found when casting Sigourney Weaver for ‘The Defenders’.
The new eight episode limited edition series due out on Netflix later this year will see all four characters from the solo series team up to take on a brand new villain portrayed by Weaver.
While details are sketchy, Weaver will play a woman named Alexandra, who is reportedly not a known villain from the Marvel Universe, although that might just be smoke and mirrors to keep everyone guessing until the show debuts.
According to show runner Marco Ramirez (who is also the show runner behind ‘Daredevil), Alexandra is “an utter bad ass” who “is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is — sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”
Other than the description about Weaver’s character, Ramirez wasn’t about to let anything else slip as they continue to work on ‘The Defenders’ ahead of the debut later this year on Netflix.
Any guesses on who Weaver might be playing? Is Alexandra a tease for a villain we already know from the Marvel Universe or do you believe that this really is a brand new villain created for the show?

Only time will tell once ‘The Defenders’ debuts on Netflix.
