The next pair of X-Men movies from FOX have just been pushed back rather dramatically with both now set to be released in 2019…
If you’re waiting on a new X-Men movie outside of Deadpool 2, you’re going to be waiting quite a bit longer.
On Monday, FOX announced several changes to their upcoming film line up — most notably shifting both X-Men: The Dark Phoenix and New Mutants to much later release dates.
X-Men: The Dark Phoenix was originally slated to land in theaters on November 2 will now be released on February 14, 2019. X-Men: The Dark Phoenix stars Game of Thrones favorite Sophie Turner in the lead role as Jean Grey in the iconic comic book storyline that is now being retold after a failed attempt was made in X-Men: The Last Stand.
Meanwhile, the other X-Men spinoff movie titled New Mutants, which is said to straddle the line between a comic book film and a horror movie, was already pushed back until 2019 but now the film has an even later release date.
New Mutants, starring another Game of Thrones actress, Maisie Williams, was scheduled for release on February 22, 2019 and now the movie has been pushed back all the way until August 2, 2019.
There had been rumors that FOX ordered reshoots and edits for New Mutants to make it a scarier movie than when the film was first scheduled for release.
Now it looks like there will be plenty of time to put on the finishing touches for both X-Men: The Dark Phoenix and New Mutants with neither film slated for release until 2019.
It’s unknown at this time if the move was made in anticipation of the upcoming sale where Disney will take over FOX’s film studio including ownership of these characters from the Marvel Universe.
