Frank Miller will return for one more book in ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ series as he returns for the final chapter “The Dark Knight III: The Master Race’….
Frank Miller is often hailed as one of the most prolific and brilliant minds behind some of the greatest comic book stories ever told. His work on ‘Daredevil’ was very much the basis for the Netflix series that just debuted recently to rave reviews.
His biggest and most well known work has been the 1986 series ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ where he tells a story of an aged Batman who comes out of retirement after years in hiding before eventually ending up in a conflict with his old friend Superman. The book has been hailed as one of the greatest achievements in comic book writing in history and it served as part of the inspiration for the upcoming film ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
Now Miller is ready to return to tell one final Batman story in his ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy with a new book titled ‘The Dark Knight III: The Master Race’.

Miller will teammate with Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets and The Joker) to finish out his version of the Batman story that he started back in 1986 before continuing the tale with the 2001 release of ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again’.
“Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting,” Miller said, “but we’ll do our best.”
As iconic as his work on ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ was, Miller was met with negative reviews for the second book released over 15 years after the original so it’s hard to say what the new story will be in the third and final book in the trilogy.
Azzarello is a fine writer in his own career so hopefully he will be able to work with Miller on creating another critical masterpiece similar to some of the legendary creator’s previous work.
‘The Dark Knight III: The Master Race’ will be released twice monthly starting in the Fall from DC Comics.
