Jason Voorhees is coming back to life (again) this time in a new Friday the 13th television series being produced and shopped around to potential buyers as a one-hour drama….

The Friday the 13th film series remains one of the most popular and beloved horror franchises of all time and now Sean S. Cunningham, who produced the original film in 1980, is executive producing a new television series based on the characters in the original movie.

According to Deadline, ‘Friday the 13th’ will be produced and developed as a one-hour drama from Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment with Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) will write the script for the new series set to retell the story of Jason Voorhees through several different time periods including current day.

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” Cunningham said.

The ‘Friday the 13th’ series spawned numerous movies, video games, and toys over the years and even a short lived TV show that had nothing to do with Jason Voorhees, which ran from 1987 to 1990.

Now the real ‘Friday the 13th’ will be produced as a television series focusing on Jason and his murderous intent. The show will be produced, but has not yet been picked up by any television network at this time.
