Warner Bros has announced that Fast and the Furious star Gal Gadot will be playing the role of Wonder Woman in the new Man of Steel sequel that begins filming next year…
In the biggest news of the day, Warner Bros and DC have announced that Gal Gadot — best known to movie goers as Giselle from The Fast and the Furious movie franchise — will be playing the role of Wonder Woman in the new Man of Steel sequel.
The announcement was made on Wednesday.
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” said Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming film. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
Gadot will be added to a cast that now includes Henry Cavill returning as Superman as well as Ben Affleck, who will portray Batman in the upcoming film slated to open in 2015.
Filming for the movie will begin early next year with shooting locations in Detroit and a few other areas serving as the back drop for Metropolis and presumably Gotham City. The filmmakers and studio have yet to announce the villain for the upcoming movie but rumors are that Superman arch nemesis Lex Luthor will be the main antagonist this time around.
As for Gadot’s casting, this is just another piece of the DC puzzle falling into place as they begin building towards a bigger film franchise similar to Marvel and their series of movies that eventually led to the superstar machine The Avengers.
Wonder Woman will play at lease some role in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie before presumably either getting her own film or spinning off in other DC film franchises while the studio contemplates a future film for the Justice League.
