Get ready for some rajin’ Cajun card slinging mutant action as X-Man Gambit will make it to the big screen in a solo film starring Channing Tatum in the title role…
Channing Tatum first stated several months ago that he was attached to play famed X-Men character Gambit in an upcoming movie, but there was no word at the time if he would appear in a team movie or his own stand alone feature.
The question has now been answered.
According to Deadline, FOX is moving forward with Tatum attached to star in a solo ‘Gambit’ film with ‘Robocop’ remake writer Josh Zetumer attached to write the script.
First created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, Gambit is a mutant with the ability to turn the energy in any object into pure kinetic energy with very explosive results. Gambit was a very popular character in the X-Men books in the 90’s, especially when he was attached to female mutant, Rogue (in the movies played by Anna Paquin).
There’s no official word yet on a director or timeline for the film to get made, but with a script commissioned it seems Gambit will start coming to life at some point in 2015.
Tatum is currently busy at work on his film Magic Mike XXL, a sequel to the sleeper hit Magic Mike, as well as getting ready for award season for his turn as Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz in the upcoming Bennett Miller feature “Foxcatcher”.
