Peter Vaughan, who played Maester Aemon Targaryen on ‘Game of Thrones’ has passed away at the age of 93…
Peter Vaughan — best known for his role on ‘Game of Thrones’ as Maester Aemon Targaryen of the Night’s Watch — has died at the age of 93.
As Maester Aemon, Vaughan provided words of wisdom throughout five seasons of the show while teaching and training both Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly after they joined the Night’s Watch.
Unlike most of the characters in George R.R. Martin’s bloody epic, Maester Aemon actually died of old age — which is exactly how Vaughan exited the show in season five after his character passed away.
While Vaughan was best known in recent years for his role on ‘Game of Thrones, he had been a working actor for almost his entire life while starring in films such as ‘Straw Dogs’, ‘Brazil’ and ‘The Remains of the Day’.
Vaughan is survived by his wife, son, two stepdaughters and four grandchildren.
