‘Game of Thrones’ will become the first TV series to show in IMAX theaters with two episodes from season 4 airing along with an exclusive trailer for season 5….
Later this month, ‘Game of Thrones’ will debut on IMAX screens across the country with two episodes from season 4 of the show beginning the week of January 23 for an exclusive one week run, which will also feature the first trailer for season 5 of the show. The two episodes will be digitally remastered and reformatted for the IMAX experience with 150 IMAX theaters across the country getting the engagement running from January 23 to January 29.
“IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience and today’s partnership with HBO and Game of Thrones achieves just that,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way. As part of our broader strategy, we will continue to look for one-of-a-kind ways to provide consumers with special IMAX experiences.”
The two episodes that will air include episode 9 and episode 10 from season 4 of the show. Episode 9 is ‘The Watchers on the Wall’, the massive battle taking place at The Wall between the Night’s Watch and the invaders from the North. The episode was hailed as one of the best on television all year with some of the most impressive special effects in TV history. Episode 10, ‘The Children’ will also air in IMAX theaters as the season 4 finale wraps up the stories for Bran’s trip north of The Wall as well as Tyrion’s fate being decided after he is convicted for the death of King Joffrey. And of course there will be a special season 5 trailer that will air exclusively during the IMAX engagement for ‘Game of Thrones’.
