The cast for Game of Thrones season 6 continues to grow with a new red priestess joining the ranks in Meereen…..
When Game of Thrones season 6 picks up in 2016, Tyrion and Varys will be holding down the fort in Meereen following the disappearance of Daenerys Targaryen at the close of season 5 and it looks like the famous former slave city is about to get a little more religion.
Melanie Liburd — best known for roles on Strike Back and CSI — has been cast to play a red priestess in the upcoming sixth season.
Melisandre (played by Carice Van Houten) is the best known red priestess on Game of Thrones, but it looks like Liburd will be joining the ranks of R’hllor worshippers in season 6 except she will be across the Narrow Sea in Meereen.
If you remember during season 5 when Tyrion and Varys first arrive in Volantis, they witness a red priestess giving a sermon to her faithful before she looks directly at the dwarf, who is sitting on a staircase up above her.
We can only assume this previous connection will play into the red priestess arriving in Meereen as Tyrion tries to manage the sprawling city in Daenerys’ absence.
Game of Thrones season 6 will debut in the spring of 2016 on HBO.
