After a ton of speculation, Game of Thrones has reportedly cast the entire Tarly family for season 6 including Sam’s father Randyll Tarly….
Well the mystery surrounding Ian McShane’s character continues because a role that he seemed perfect for on Game of Thrones season 6 has now been cast with a different actor.
The new season currently being filmed in locations around the world has reportedly cast the remainder of Samwell Tarly’s family, including his notoriously strict and burly father Randyll.
According to Watchers on the Wall, British actor James Faulker — best known for roles in Downton Abbey and DaVinci’s Demons — will play Randyll Tarly in the upcoming season.
Randyll is a shrewd leader and considered one of the best military commanders in all of Westeros. He was an ardent supporter of House Tyrell during Robert’s Rebellion and also joined them again under the banner of Renly Baratheon when he was attempting to usurp the Iron Throne. He also attempted to force his eldest son Samwell into more masculine pursuits but after his younger brother Dickon was born, Randyll told Samwell he had two choices — join the Night’s Watch or die — because he wanted his kingdom to go to Dickon instead.
Also cast in the Tarly family is Samantha Spiro — best known for her roles in several British series such as Psychobitches and Grandma’s House — and she will play Melessa Florent, the mother to Samwell and the rest of his siblings.
Finally, theater actress Rebecca Benson has been cast as Samwell’s younger sister Talla Tarly.
As previously reported, Freddie Stroma has already been cast as Samwell’s younger brother Dickon.
The new season of Game of Thrones is currently filming with a debut date on HBO expected in the spring of 2016
