Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is a big fan of Breaking Bad and has some thoughts on how Walter White might force him to up the ante in his own work…
Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin knows a thing or two about brutally offing a major character starting with Ned Stark in his first book about the deadly art of Westerosi warfare.
As it turns out, Martin is also a fan of other maniacal characters from television lore including Breaking Bad’s Walter White portrayed by the brilliant Bryan Crantson. Following last week’s episode where Hank Schrader was shot and killed after doing his best to bring Walt to justice, Martin called the show “amazing” and said “talk about a gut punch.”
Martin recently took to his blog to express his love for all things Walt, while dropping some interesting comparisons to the central character in Breaking Bad to his long list of villainous homicidal madmen (and women).
“Walter White is a bigger monster than anyone in Westeros,” Martin wrote.
King Joffrey might argue that point, but either way Martin is certainly a fan of the show and knows that his own creation will go head to head with the AMC hit series come Emmy time this year and next.
Martin did add one little nugget in addition to his adoration of Walter White — and everyone in Westeros should be worried about this one.
“I need to do something about that,” White said when referencing Walter White’s menacing persona compared to his own characters in Game of Thrones.
As if there weren’t enough dead bodies already littering the hillsides and oceans around Westeros, it seems the story of Walter White might just convince Martin to up the body count in his upcoming books.
The Stark family should just batten down the hatches right now.
