It looks like Game of Thrones is really entering the home stretch with on of the directors confirmed season 7 will be less than 10 episodes….
It’s been rumored for months now that Game of Thrones would be ending after season 8 with the final two seasons of the highly popular show being shortened to less than the standard 10 episode order of all the previous seasons.
Now it looks like we’ve got our first confirmation of that from director Jack Bender, who just headed up the episode “The Door” in season 6.
According to Bender, Game of Thrones show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss run a very tight ship and preparations are already moving for the next season of the show and that’s why he’s not certain that he’ll be included on the director’s list with less episodes to go around than normal.
“They’re only doing seven [episodes], and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever,” Bender said recently. “I know that I had a wonderful experience doing the show and I know that Dan and David are thrilled with the shows, but I’ve got this series I’m mounting for the beginning of 2017 based on Stephen King’s trilogy of books, starting with Mr. Mercedes. Brendan Gleeson is playing the lead, which I’m thrilled about, Anton Yelchin, and I’m in the process of mounting that.
“I haven’t been asked yet and I also don’t know what their schedule is going to be. But under the best of circumstances, schedule and everything, I had a great experience doing the show. If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that.”
Rumors have circulated that Game of Thrones could end with a total of 13 more episodes split between two shortened seasons. There has been other speculation that the show could go for another 15 episodes.
Whatever the case may be, if Game of Thrones really is targeting a seven episode season 7, it seems more likely that the final season would only be six episodes. Regardless of the amount, it certainly appears that Game of Thrones is headed into the home stretch after season six wraps in just a few weeks time.
