When the words Game of Thrones are uttered typically the first thing to follow isn’t ‘wow that would make a great rap song’ but that’s exactly what’s happening with a new mixtape from HBO…
The world of hip-hop and Westeros are about to collide with a new mixtape being released by HBO on Friday called ‘Catch the Throne’ feature 10 rappers all spitting lyrics about the series ‘Game of Thrones’.
The idea, according to HBO executives, is to expand the reach of the popular fantasy series to a new audience that may not already know about Game of Thrones.
The mixtape won’t just be a bunch of unknown rappers either — Big Boi from Outkast, Common, Wale and several others will perform completely new tracks set in the world of Game of Thrones.
For just a sample of some of the lyrics:
I’m tellin’ whoever messin’ with me
I can bring you that Khaleesi heat
Use my King, knack for words, as an actual sword
I can decapitate a rapper…
Game of Throne has consistently been HBO’s biggest and most watched show over the last few years, and with season 4 set to debut on April 6 this is just another tool to get people excited about the new year ahead.
