From the ‘this shouldn’t shock anybody’ category, HBO has re-upped Game of Thrones for at least two more seasons running through 2016….
‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 returned on Sunday night to monster ratings — the best on HBO since The Sopranos series finale — and now on Tuesday the premium cable station has re-upped the show for two more seasons.
Season 5 will air in 2015 with season 6 bowing in 2016 and now the show has a commitment from HBO for both as of today. HBO already signed up show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss for two more years, so this was really a formality just waiting for the actual announcement.
Benioff and Weiss have stated that they would like to conclude ‘Game of Thrones’ in seven or eight seasons, and if ratings keep up the way they are currently, there’s no way HBO will be taking this show off the air any time soon.
The next episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ airs Sunday night at 9pm on HBO.
