With Game of Thrones season 6 filming underway, reports have surfaced that Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has landed the role of Euron Greyjoy….
Pilou Asbæk — best known for his role in films such as Lucy as well as TV roles on The Borgias — has reportedly landed the coveted role of Euron Greyjoy for Game of Thrones season 6.
The report comes courtesy of Watchers on the Wall, who tend to stay apprised of all Game of Thrones news with spies seemingly lurking around every corner where filming is taking place like they are working for Varys.
It’s been long rumored since a casting list went out for Game of Thrones season 6 that Euron Greyjoy would be joining the show so this addition doesn’t come as a surprise.
For those curious for a little backstory on Euron Greyjoy….
He’s the youngest brother to Lord Balon Greyjoy, lord of the Iron Islands who is of course Theon Greyjoy’s father. Euron fought alongside his family during Robert’s Rebellion where Robert Baratheon overtook the Iron Throne from the Targaryens several years before the events in Game of Thrones.
Euron was eventually banished from the Iron Islands by his older brother Balon after he either seduced or raped his older brother Victarion’s salt wife. He was told never to return while Balon was still alive so he ended up living on his boat, Silence, while pillaging his way across the seas to survive.
It’s rumored Euron landed in some of the most feared lands in all of the Known World including Asshai and walked in the smoldering ruins of Valyria.
Keep an eye out on Game of Thrones season 6 news because if this casting is true, Euron’s addition to the show could bring the Greyjoys back to the forefront in a big way, especially considering they’ve been virtually non-existent over the past few seasons outside of Theon and his sister.
