The production on ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 will start soon and the directors for each episode have been chosen….
With only two seasons left in ‘Game of Thrones’, every episode is just as vital as the last so the directors for season 6 are going to be crucial to the overall story telling that will happen when filming begins this Summer.
‘Game of Thrones’ has employed a phenomenal list of directors in the past to essentially shoot a film made for TV each and every week. From the biggest cast to the most creative stunts, ‘Game of Thrones’ is a challenge for the most ambitious directors and season 6 will certainly be no different.
While plot details and story remain a mystery for ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, at least now we know the direction the show will be headed with each person announced for the 10 episodes debuting next Spring. The directors all work in two episode arcs because of the expansive production schedule that shoots across three different countries with multiple units all going at once so this just makes things easier for the final product and cost.
Without further ado here are the directors for ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6:
Episodes 1 & 2: Jeremy Podeswa — A veteran of ‘Game of Thrones’ who directed episodes 5 & 6 last season (Kill the Boy and Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken) and he’s also worked on ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Carnivale’.
Episodes 3 & 4: Daniel Sackheim — First time directing ‘Game of Thrones’ after a long career working on ‘The Americans’, ‘House M.D.’, ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘X-Files’.
Episodes 5 & 6: Jack Bender — Another ‘Game of Thrones’ newcomer, but he’s no stranger to big TV shows. He directed 38 episodes of ‘Lost’, while also working on ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Alias’ and most recently ‘Under the Dome’.
Episodes 7 & 8: Mark Mylod — Worked on ‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 directing episodes 3 & 4 with ‘High Sparrow’ and ‘Sons of the Harpy’ as well as 23 episodes of ‘Entourage’ and working on ‘Shameless’ on Showtime as well.
Episodes 9 & 10: Miguel Sapochnik — He directed in ‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 as well working on ‘The Gift’ and ‘Hardhome’, two of the most well received episodes of the entire season. He’s also worked on ‘True Detective’ and ‘Banshee’.
The directors will be shooting across several months and locations including Croatia, Spain and Northern Ireland with production running from this summer until early 2016. ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 will debut on HBO in the Spring of 2016.
