Game of Thrones: Sophie Turner Promises Season 6 is Sansa Stark’s Redemption

Sansa Stark has gone through more than almost any character on Game of Thrones but it looks like she’s finally fighting back in season 6 …

Ever since Sansa Stark left Winterfell back in Game of Thrones season one with a promised marriage to future king Joffrey Baratheon, her life has been one big downward spiral from one tragedy to the next. It all started with the death of her direwolf and only snowballed from there with the loss of her father, being tortured by Joffrey, forced to marry Tyrion, accused of murder, nearly tossed out the moon door by her crazy ass aunt, pawed by a predator and eventually assaulted by her psychotic second husband Ramsay Bolton.

But finally at the end of Game of Thrones season 5, Sansa fought back by escaping Ramsay’s evil clutches with the assistance of a reborn Theon Greyjoy, who helped her escape Winterfell.

Now after five seasons of utter abuse at the hands of almost everybody near her, Sansa Stark is fighting back according to her portrayer Sophie Turner, who promises that the character is finally turning things around with the start of season 6.

“It’s probably her best season yet,” Turner said recently. “It’s her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it’s really good.
“It was amazing because the past five seasons, it feels like it’s been building up and up to that. You can only suffer so much before she finally gets her, the respect that she deserves.”

Right now there’s no telling where Sansa and Theon will end up because their story has deviated from the original books from George R.R. Martin, not to mention this particular season is going beyond his source material anyways.

Turner, who also has a part in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie where she plays Jean Grey, says that Game of Thrones season 6 might be the most shocking yet and that’s really saying something considering the kind of twists and turns this show has already unleashed over the past 50 episodes.

“I mean this season there’s like so many shocks, it’s massive,” Turner said. “It’s the biggest season yet. And just like in terms of character development, so many people’s storylines, I’m so excited for.”

Another story that Turner is particularly interested in is the one played by Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy.

For the past three seasons, he’s been kept under the thumb and the sadistic blade of Ramsay Bolton as well before finally breaking free and helping Sansa escape in the finale last year. Where he goes from here is anybody’s guess, but Turner promises Theon will have plenty to do in season 6.

“I’m so excited to see Alfie’s one this season. It’s going to be good,” Turner teased.

Game of Thrones season 6 debuts on HBO on Sunday night, April 24 at 9pm ET.
