For the second season in a row, author George R.R. Martin won’t pen an episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ favoring to finish his upcoming book instead…
George R.R. Martin knows fans of his epic series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ are beginning to get restless waiting for the sixth novel — The Winds of Winter — to be released so he’s clearing everything possible off his plate to focus on the book.
That includes working on episodes of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ in the mean time.
From seasons 1 through 4, Martin wrote at least one episode for the show based on his novels, but he skipped out on season 5 and will now also skip out on season 6 to focus on his book.
“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish,” Martin told EW this week. “But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”
Martin will skip out on this summer’s San Diego Comic Con, which is a typical stop for the author to promote his work as well as ‘Game of Thrones’, which is typically one of the most highly anticipated panels of the year.
The plan is to release ‘The Winds of Winter’ ahead of ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, which will debut on HBO in Spring 2016.
Part of the frustration from fans about the book’s release is because the last novel released, ‘A Dance with Dragons’, came out in 2011 and that came six years after the previous novel in the series.
By this time line, ‘A Dream of Spring’, the final novel in Martin’s series will come out sometime in 2050. All jokes aside, Martin is bearing down to work on the book to get it released into stores early next year and forgoing any unnecessary commitments in the mean time.
