‘Ghostbusters‘ star and acclaimed writer/director Harold Ramis died on Monday after succumbing to an autoimmune disease. He was 69 years old.
According to the Chicago Tribune, who first reported the news, Ramis passed at 12:53am surrounded by friends and family following his battle with the disease that caused swelling in the blood vessels.
Ramis may best be remembered on screen for his role as Dr. Egon Spangler in the two Ghostbusters movies where he starred alongside Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd but he was also a very successful writer and director where he worked on films such as ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation‘ as well as ‘Groundhog Day‘, which re-teamed him with Murray on another project.
Ramis had been battling health problems since 2010, but continued to fight until his passing on Monday in Chicago.
