The latest superhero series coming to TV has found its star as ‘Glee’ alum Melissa Benoist has landed the lead role in CBS’ new show ‘Supergirl’…
Up, up and away!
With all the success of comic book series on TV these days (Arrow, The Flash, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., etc), CBS was missing out on that superhero money so they’ve invested in a new series based around Superman’s cousin and now they’ve found their star.
‘Supergirl’ will feature ‘Glee’ alum Melissa Benoist in the lead role playing Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, who escapes the planet Krypton before it explodes and ends up on Earth where she hides out for years until finally revealing her powers to the world.
Benoist lands the coveted role after starring in ‘Glee’ as well as the critically acclaimed feature ‘Whiplash’, currently up for a number of Academy Awards.
‘Supergirl’ has been ordered to pilot thus far at CBS with the initial script written by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, who have both worked on some super shoes in the past including ‘Arrow’ and ‘Chuck’. Adler also worked with Benoist when she was an executive producer on ‘Glee’.
