David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne in the new series ‘Gotham’ talks about the iconic role in what starts out as an angry, lonely and dark little boy who just lost his parents…

The new series on FOX titled ‘Gotham’ could just as easily be called ‘Before Batman’ because the show focuses on a city and characters looming before the days of the Caped Crusader. Future Commissioner Jim Gordon is just a new detective on the Gotham Police force in this series, while Bruce Wayne is a frightened kid who watches his parents get brutally gunned down in the debut episode that will air on September 22.

David Mazouz, who came to prominence in his roles playing Kiefer Sutherland’s gifted son in another FOX series titled ‘Touch’, plays the title role of Bruce Wayne as a young man grieving for his parents who is left all along after their deaths.

As Mazouz stated while talking at San Diego Comic Con this July, playing an iconic role such as Bruce Wayne obviously comes with a certain amount of pressure and expectation, but at the same time the younger version of the character has never really been explored before on TV or in film. In many ways, Mazouz will get the chance to play Bruce Wayne his way, and as he describes him, this is a deeply conflicted and emotional young man.

“In the pilot episode his parents die and for any regular kid, if my parents died at my age, I would be totally messed up,” Mazouz told Nerdcore Movement. “It’s an amazing role to play because he’s angry, he’s lonely, he’s scared, he’s dark, he’s compulsive, he’s looking for any reason for his parents death.”

Mazouz also talks in the interview about the research he did for the role and how much that will or won’t play into his portrayal of Bruce Wayne on the show. Check out the video and come back for more exclusive ‘Gotham’ interviews leading up to the series premiere on September 22.
