Grant Gustin has become a beloved centerpiece of The Flash on TV but he took up for Ezra Miller who will play the part in The Flash movie as well as the Justice League film ….
As the DC Cinematic Universe continues to expand over the next few years, the world of movies will clash with the world of television because several characters from each will be running simultaneously in two different formats.
Most notably, The Flash will now be played by Grant Gustin on the hit CW series while Ezra Miller will play the exact same character in the upcoming Justice League movie as well as his own stand alone feature from Warner Bros. down the road.
Now there are more than a few Flash fans who have championed Gustin for the film role because his portrayal of Barry Allen/The Flash has landed rave reviews and has quickly made the series one of the most popular comic book adaptations on television. So after Gustin ‘liked’ a few posts on Twitter that had fans clamoring for him to play The Flash in the cinematic universe, he felt the need to respond and defended Miller’s casting while giving the actor his full support.
“I fully support Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and The Flash on the feature side of DC,” Gustin wrote. “I’ve never met the guy but I think he is a fantastic and interesting actor.
“Would I have liked to play Barry Allen in a film? Sure. I love this character and it has changed my life and making movies and TV is something I hope to be fortunate enough to do for the rest of my life.”
Gustin explained that he ‘liked’ some tweets supporting him to play The Flash in the movies but never chose those messages that ‘bashed’ Miller in the process.
“I don’t condone that type of behavior (especially on the internet) and I definitely don’t partake,” Gustin said. “I can’t wait to see all the DC movies that are slated for the upcoming years. I am a fan and it will be awesome.”
Fans got their first brief look at Miller in the Dawn of the Justice League special that introduced him as The Flash ahead of the Justice League movie due out in 2017 that will officially introduce the character into the DC cinematic universe.
As for Gustin, The Flash season 2 continues to be a ratings and critical hit for the CW as the show has been extremely well received since spinning off from Arrow more than a year ago.
