Gunnar Hansen, who was made famous playing Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has died at the age of 68….
Gunnar Hansen — best known for playing Leatherface in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie in 1974 — died on Saturday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Hansen landed the role playing the iconic horror villain just out of grad school when he discovered the film was being shot in nearby Austin.
From that moment on, Hansen has been associated with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it remained his biggest role as he mostly ended up in smaller films for the rest of his career while making appearances all over the world at conventions and fan gatherings as the man who played Leatherface.
Hansen was born in Iceland but moved to the United States when he was just a boy and he remained living in his home in Maine until the day he passed away.
