Harrison Ford will take over a role from the late William Hurt with his appearance in the upcoming film “Captain America: New World Order”…
Harrison Ford is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The prolific actor best known for past roles in the “Star Wars” saga and “Indiana Jones” films has signed on to star in the upcoming sequel “Captain America: New World Order” where he’ll take on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, which was previously played by the late William Hurt, who passed away in March.
Ford joins the cast, which also includes Anthony Mackie in the lead role as Sam Wilson/Captain America alongside Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly. The film will take place after the events of the Disney+ series “Falcon and Winter Soldier,” which saw Sam take up the mantle as Captain America in the series finale.
Ford will portray General Ross in the new “Captain America” film but he’s also slated to appear in the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie that’s due out on July 26, 2024. That film will feature a group of antiheroes who are organized into a group that will undoubtedly feature General Ross as one of the main players orchestrating moves behind the scenes.
The last of “Thunderbolts” has already been announced with past Marvel favorites like Sebastian Stan and Florence Pugh returning for the teamup film.
As far as the character itself, General Ross first appeared in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” before returning as a behind-the-scenes player in several other films including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War” where he led an effort to pass the Sokovia Accords, which sought to keep tabs on superheroes, which put him at direct odds with Captain America.
There’s no telling how much of a role Ford will have as General Ross in the upcoming “Captain America: New World Order” but the character is important enough to sign up the actor for multiple films.
“Captain America: New World Order” is set for release on May 3, 2024.
