While the original reports about Harrison Ford’s on set accident during the filming of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ stated he had a broken ankle, it was actually much worse…
Harrison Ford won’t be on set filming ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ for at least a couple of months because the accident that caused an injury to the actor was a broken leg, not a broken ankle.
According to Ford’s publicist via EW, the actor suffered a broken bone in his leg requiring him to undergo surgery.
“Harrison Ford’s left leg was broken in an accident. His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly,” Ina Treciokas said in a statement. “He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work.”
Ford was already expected to miss about two months of filming due to the injury, but whether or not that timeline has been extended now with the full brunt of his injury being revealed is unknown. Typically a broken bone in the leg takes about six to eight weeks to heal, and then at that point it’s a matter of regaining full strength in the muscles and joints where the bone has been immobilized during that time.
Ford is playing a major role in the upcoming Star Wars sequel, but how much he already filmed and has left to film is still unknown. Regardless of the injury, ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is still expected to open on time on December 18, 2015.
