“I’m heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family,” Lewis wrote. “She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air and thank you.”
McCrory got her start in acting in the early 90s while receiving rave reviews for her performances on stage, film and television.
She booked one of her best known roles in 2009 when she took on the role of Narcissa Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” McCrory was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” but she was forced to drop out of the project due to the pregnancy with her daughter. The role ended up going to Helena Bonham Carter and then McCrory returned to play Narcissa Malfoy in the final three “Harry Potter” films.
More recently, McCrory played the role of Aunt Polly on the popular BBC/Netflix series “Peaky Blinders” where she starred opposite Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson.
McCrory is survived by her husband and their two children
