In the Heroes Reborn recap, Tommy decides to help Erica, Noah tries to keep Malina safe and Parkman attempts to extract information….

Seriously, what is it with Heroes or in this case Heroes Reborn refusing to kill anybody permanently?
This episode saw the return of Farah, who was supposedly shot dead earlier in the season, but here she is very much alive. The same thing with Miko, who was only a video game construct brought to life but we can’t even get rid of her! The only people who have actually stayed dead on this damn show are the ones who wouldn’t come back for the revival. I’m sure Claire is only dead because Hayden Panettiere is busy shooting Nashville.
Heroes fell apart in many ways by continuing to add new characters without ever actually getting rid of other ones from the canvas. It seemed like only Isaac Mendes was meant to stay dead because virtually everybody else kept coming back and coming back and coming back for more.
I guess that’s a true sign of a comic book show, however, because no one ever stays dead there either.
With that said, let’s recap the latest episode of Heroes Reborn titled ’11:53 to Odessa’…
NOAH AND MALINA
Following the shootout at the ice cream parlor, Noah wants to get Malina as far away as possible but he’s not interested in take up Luke on an offer to help them. He’s already wary that a grown man was willing to transport his 15-year old granddaughter around the country, but this is as far as he’s going to go when it comes to helping her complete her mission.
In the car, Noah tells Malina about her mother and how they share so many of the same qualities — despite the fact that he’s never actually spent any time with this girl but for the sake of TV we’ll just enjoy the heartfelt moment.
The two stop at a gas station to refuel and Malina notices a car that’s been following them is parked just a few feet away. It’s Luke, who stalked followed them because he’s really determined to help.
Once again, Noah rebuffs his offer but a few minutes later he’ll be glad Luke was following them because along the highway they run into some kind of apocalyptic storm — we assume brought on by the magnetic poles shifting — and Malina hops out of the car to use her powers to stop it.
Cars are flying by as the wind picks up speed and Noah is nearly taken out by the debris, but a hand comes from out of nowhere and transports him away from the wreckage. Was it Tommy? Was it Hiro? There’s a cliffhanger until January.
Malina saves the day but immediately everyone watching turns on her because she’s an Evo. Luke steps in and does a little flame throwing to get the angry mob to back off but Malina soon discovers Noah’s smashed glasses and she assumes her grandfather was killed. Granted there’s no body whatsoever, but she’s still sad.
TOMMY AND MIKO
Tommy wakes up the next day at Erica’s house with no memory of what happened the night before. He has an incision on the back of his neck where Erica and her goons attempted to hook him into their machinery to use his powers — kind of like a makeshift Matrix — but because Tommy’s powers are adapted and not natural to his DNA, they can’t actually steal it from him.
So Erica convinces Tommy that he needs to help her or watch the world be destroyed.
Eventually, Tommy travels with Erica, Quentin and Phoebe to the future more than 7,000 years from now where she’s set up a new colony called Gateway where she plans to restart the Earth after the magnetic poles destroy everything else. Tommy decides to team up with Erica as long as he can save his family along with as many people as possible to come to Gateway with them.
Erica agrees but along the way Quentin starts to feel kind of guilty that they are about to watch a whole lot of people die rather than try to save them. Old Quentin is seeping through but Phoebe is still drinking Erica’s kool-aid in large gulps and she’s not buying that this is a bad idea at all.
Finally, Erica tells Tommy to transport Quentin and Phoebe back to present day and he does, but before he can send himself back, Miko pops up from out of nowhere and says that it’s her mission to save him.
See it appears after Miko was ‘destroyed’ when she freed Hiro, her construct form transported to the future where she ran into her real father Otomo, who explains that she’s nothing more than a video game based on his daughter, who Renautas has kept alive after she got sick and blackmailed him to help them. He tells video game Miko to go save the master of time and space before it’s too late.
So Miko does her duty and tells Tommy that they have to get out of there right away and he transports them back to the past. Meanwhile, Erica is now locked in the future with no way to return unless Tommy returns. Take that!
REN
Back in present day, Ren is trying to figure out what happened to Miko when he spots a samurai warrior in the coffee shop where he’s sitting. He follows him back to a martial arts studio where he discovers that the samurai is actually a construct of Miko’s father.
He tells Ren to get to Odessa, Texas and the site of Gateway where he will await Miko to return so he can help her on her final mission. Ren runs outside and conveniently finds a bus headed to Odessa where he hopes to run into Miko one more time.
PARKMAN, FARAH AND TAYLOR
So it turns out Farah didn’t die (shocked) when she was shot protecting Malina and now Parkman is trying to extrapolate her mind to find out where the girl is hiding. He uses leverage against her in the form of Carlos, who is much easier to manipulate and he finds out that they served together in Iraq and they are actually in love with each other.
Carlos’ memories unlock a time during the war when he was too afraid to use his weapon so Farah had to use her powers to get them both out of there alive. When they returned home, he was hailed as a hero and she had to go into hiding because of her abilities.
Meanwhile, Taylor, the Haitian (another character who couldn’t stay dead) and the rest of Hero Truther show up at Sunstone Manor looking to retrieve Micah, who was kidnapped and now helps Renautas control the flow of information through his ability to speak to all manner of technology.
Taylor takes one of the shape-shifting Evo’s with her who turns into an Erica clone to fool the guards and get an audience with Parkman. Their arrival pulls Parkman out of his interrogation just as he got the information out of Farah thanks to his threat to Carlos.
When he arrives, Parkman hears a male voice inside Erica’s head but before he can react, Taylor tases him to the ground and they immediately attempt to find her boyfriend as well as Micah. Taylor runs to find them but the shape shifter stays behind and ends up shot and dead after one of the Harris clones arrives to provide backup.
Parkman reads his mind and finds out that he’s actually expendable in this whole plan so he’s forced to go to Micah to make sure his family — wife and kid — are on the list to transport to Gateway.
Downstairs, Carlos overpowers his guard and frees Farah after they kiss (which had to be the dumbest part of the entire episode) and then they try to escape. They run into Taylor and eventually the trio learns to trust each other while they begin exploring the compound to find her boyfriend, Carlos’ nephew and priest as well as Micah.
They are joined outside by the rest of Hero Truther but just when it looks like they’ve gained the upper hand, an army of Harris clones descends upon Sunstone Manor and they are forced to flee to both sides of the building in an attempt to get away.
And there you have the fall finale for Heroes Reborn with the show on hiatus until January when it returns for the final three episodes!
