In the latest Heroes Reborn recap, Noah travels back to find out what happened to Claire and the secret he had erased from his memory is revealed….

There’s no way to sugarcoat this — Heroes Reborn hasn’t been very good so far.
The rebooted show has struggled to connect with new characters while seemingly moving on from the ones we knew from the past and the story has been largely convoluted and nonsensical and that’s really saying something considering this is a show about people with extraordinary abilities.
That said, if there’s one thing Heroes always managed to do well it’s the time traveling episodes (outside of Hiro’s mystical journey to feudal Japan in season 2) and the same can be said of the latest titled ‘June 13 — Part 1’ that took a look back at the fateful day when bomb exploded at the Odessa Summit wiping out thousands of people and turning humanity against evos.
It’s hard to say if this excellent episode that aired is a precursor to a better second half of the season, but so far so good.
With that said, let’s recap Heroes Reborn ‘June 13 — Part 1’….
NOAH AND HIRO
Noah and Hiro arrive on June 13 — the day six bombs exploded and killed thousands of people in Odessa, Texas in what was supposed to be a celebration between humanity and the evo population but instead turned the world against people with abilities.
Noah’s main goal upon arrival is to find out what happened to Claire while also figuring out the best way to stop the explosion without causing catastrophic waves to be sent into the future aka the butterfly effect.
Right away, Noah finds out the Claire is already at the event so he rushes off to find her before his past version shows up to finish the final check on the event security before everything gets started. Past Noah discovers a huge security gap in the main garage, which makes him worry about what could possibly go wrong if someone finds out about. Want to guess where the bombs go off?
With only three hours to go until the explosion, Noah and Hiro rush back to his office in a last ditch effort to find Claire, but when they arrive a noise startles them and they are forced to hide to prevent being seen.
While they are hidden, past Noah walks in with Erica Kravid, who he berates for changing his security detail and leaving such a key area unguarded. Worried that he’s about to blow her plans, Erica has past Noah arrested and placed into holding until her plan is executed later that day.
After exiting, Noah emerges and wants to go after the past version of himself to find out what happens next but when Angela Petrelli arrives, she urges her old friend to come with her to the hospital instead because Claire is in trouble! Hiro tells Noah to go save the cheerleader while he saves the world.
MOHINDER AND ANGELA
So how did Angela Petrelli end up at the Odessa Summit?
Back track a couple of hours and we see Angela pick up Mohinder Suresh on the side of the road as he’s on his way to the summit as well. Mohinder is a key note speaker after working under Erica Kravid and Renautas for the past four years.
It seems Mohinder was brought onto Erica’s projects after they discovered a HELE — Human Extinction Level Event — and he’s been working tirelessly to stop it. Angela explains that she had a vision that proves not only will he not stop the event — which is the poles reversing thus allowing huge solar flares to blast the Earth and destroy every living thing in sight — but Erica wants the HELE to happen.
She’s planning on repopulating the Earth in her own way and she’s been using Mohinder’s research as assistance — remember all those evo weapons she’s developing to time travel to the future and carry supplies and people between the two worlds?
Mohinder doesn’t buy it until he gets to the summit and decides to hedge his bets just a bit by handing over a copy of his new book to Molly Walker, who is also there for the celebration. Inside, Mohinder tries to contact his research team but no one is answering, which is just further proof that Angela Petrelli was right all along. Back at her car, Angela gets a call from Claire’s phone, except it isn’t her granddaughter on the other end. Claire is in the hospital and that sends Angela rushing to find Noah.
Meanwhile, Mohinder finally tracks down Erica she tells Mohinder that he’s absolutely correct — she has no plans to save the world, but instead she wants to speed along its destruction. Harris Prime knocks Mohinder out with a tranquilizer dart and carries him out to the garage where he will be used at the scapegoat who set off the bombs that killed thousands in Odessa.
LUKE AND JOANNE
To this point in the show, I’m still not sure what purpose these characters actually serve but long story short with this random (and only unnecessary) part of the episode — Luke and Joanne have brought their son Dennis to Odessa for the big summit to try and help him find a cure. It seems Dennis is afflicted with some kind of condition that doesn’t allow him to step into the sunlight without his skin burning. Sort of a vampiric effect almost, but Luke hopes to find an evo with healing powers to take away his son’s affliction.
NOAH AND ANGELA
Past Noah is taken into custody where it looks like he’s about to have his mind controlled and then wiped by the penny turning protector named Casper that’s been following Tommy around all season as a guardian angel. It seems Casper was Noah’s partner for several years (one of us, one of them) and he’s been sent to control him as ordered by Erica Kravid. Except, Casper really is one of the good guys and he instead helps free Noah so they can find Claire and stop whatever plan Erica is about to orchestrate.
Meanwhile, Future Noah and Angela get to the hospital but it’s already too late — Claire is dead but the good news is her children are just fine.
Yep, that’s right – Claire Bennet had twins before suffering from cardiac arrest and a stroke that took her life.
ERICA AND HIRO
The day of the explosion is very important to Erica Kravid and the ultimate revelation of her plan to restart the world after the HELE takes place. The first order of business is preparing Phoebe (Quentin’s sister known as The Shadow), who will release her ‘darkness’ as a cloud that will mask the entire summit thus rendering anyone with abilities powerless.
In Japan, Otomo (Miko’s father) shows his boss Hiro Nakamura plans for a new world he’s created that will help save humanity but he needs his time travel ability to take people there. When Hiro refuses, Otomo uses his power (the stupid video game transport ability) to trap the time traveling swordsman inside the game. That’s where Otomo takes Hiro’s sword while also keeping him on the sidelines by locking him in the Evernow universe.
Back in Odessa, Harris has everything set up for Mohinder to take the fall, but future Hiro shows up to thwart the plan. Good news is Hiro defeats Harris rather easily — bad news is Harris is the one who has the bomb strapped to his body and every time he dies, more are created in his place. Mohinder chases one version of Harris while Hiro stays behind to battle two more.
Finally, Hiro decides that fighting is just a waste so he pauses time and skips ahead to see how this all plays out. Ultimately, Hiro decides that any further action will only affect the future even more dramatically so he zaps out of there and back to the hospital just when Phoebe’s power controlling cloud comes overhead. Hiro finds future Noah looking over his daughter’s body, apologizing for not being there when she needed him. Hiro explains that he couldn’t stop Harris without causing a much bigger ripple in time and he decides that both he and Noah need to get back to the present. Except there’s one problem — Phoebe’s dark cloud has dampened everyone’s powers — even Hiro.
With everyone’s abilities now on pause, Harris sets off the bombs and all of them go off simultaneously, rocking the Odessa Summit. Luke and Joanne’s son ran after a balloon just before the blast and he’s lost in the rubble while his parents desperately search for him.
Past Noah and Casper make it to the summit, but it was already too late to stop it. He was able to fire off a few shots with his gun, which allowed a few people to escape in time. Still following the explosion, Noah is forced to go to the hospital to get an injury checked out and it’s there they meet up with Molly Walker. Past Noah never found Claire either so he has Molly use her ability to search for her but when she comes up empty it’s clear his daughter is dead.
NATHAN AND MALINA
Back at the hospital, Noah meets his grandchildren and that’s when Angela tells him the other part of her prophecy — one of these kids is going to help save the world but Erica Kravid will do anything to stop them. She’s not sure if it’s one or both of them so the best plan is to keep them away from Erica until they are old enough to defend themselves from her.
The only solution is to send them 15 years into the past so by the time their powers develop, they will be able to defend themselves against Erica and help save the world. Also because Erica will be looking for babies in the present time line, no one will suspect Claire’s actual children who were sent into the past with their grandmother Angela as protection.
Before they go, Noah and Angela name the children — the boy is Nathan — named after the late Nathan Petrelli. The girl is named Malina — after Noah’s mother. Hiro agrees to take them to the past but then no more and in a blink of an eye — they all disappear.
Following Hiro’s time traveling act, the nurse who helped deliver the twins goes home to give her son a cupcake for his birthday — the nurse is Anne Clark aka Tommy’s adopted mother and her son is 15-year old Nathan all grown up. At some point I can only assume they’ll explain why he was with her instead of Angela and the same for Malina, who ended up in the arctic with her own protector as well. After seeing the events in Odessa unfold, Tommy/Nathan tells his mother that he’s ready thanks to his father showing him everything he knows.
So two things — who is Tommy/Nathan’s father? And was his memory wiped as well to prevent him from actually knowing the mission he had to complete because he’s clearly clueless when we meet him.
As for future Noah, he realizes the reason he had his memory wiped was to protect the children from Erica Kravid. If he knew where they were, she could potentially find a way to get it out of him but if Noah has no clue they ever excited, they are safe.
Seeing the events of the day wash over him including the loss of his daughter and thousands of people dead as a result of the bomb, not to mention Erica’s sanctimonious speech about how this summit only proves that evos can’t be trusted, which gives her Renautas corporation even more power, Noah decides that ‘fate’ has to intervene.
Erica Kravid needs to die.
He rushes off to shoot her but before he can fire off a bullet, past Noah spots him running down the hall and goes after him. Past Noah tackles future Noah and the whole world is blinked out of existence. Just kidding, Noah takes down Noah but for what reason would he save Erica Kravid after knowing what she just orchestrated?
Tune into Heroes Reborn next Thursday night at 8pm ET to find out!
