Get ready to welcome The Goonies back into your life because director Richard Donner says a sequel is in the works and he hopes to bring back the entire original cast….
They say you can never go back again, but ‘they’ apparently underestimate the power of The Goonies.
Nearly 20 years after the cult classic was released, original director Richard Donner revealed in an interview with TMZ on Saturday that he is currently working on a sequel to the fan favorite movie.
“If you call Goonies a comic book. We’re doing a sequel,” Donner said.
While rumors of a Goonies sequel have swirled for years, this is actual confirmation from the man behind the original movie saying that a part two is going to happen. The 1985 classic is a beloved family favorite that featured several young stars, many of whom are still very relevant in the industry today including Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Martha Plimpton.
While Donner didn’t really expand much on his ideas for the sequel or how far along the actual process is for making the movie, he did say he wants to bring back the entire original cast for Goonies 2.
“Hopefully all of them,” Donner said when asked about the original cast members returning.
Several members of the original Goonies cast have expressed interest in participating in a sequel including original star Sean Astin. Some others like Corey Feldman have shot down the idea of doing a sequel for years, while stars like Josh Brolin have gone on to huge careers in Hollywood and it’s hard to tell if he would even want to go back to the Goon Docks again.
Either way, bust out your Cyndi Lauper records, your slick shoes and your favorite Superman t-shirt because the Goonies are coming back.
