J.J. Abrams’ new television series has officially landed at HBO with a straight to order series on the network…
J.J. Abrams return to television will happen on HBO.
After a reported bidding war between the premium cable outlet and Apple for the new science fiction show from Abrams, it was HBO who ultimately won the rights with a straight to series order for the show titled ‘Demimonde’.
Not much is known about ‘Demimonde’ outside of a brief description calling the show “an epic and intimate sci-fi fantasy drama that deals with a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force.”
Abrams will write and produce the series alongside his Bad Robot production company for HBO.
This is the first time Abrams has written a TV series since ‘Fringe’, which aired on FOX until 2013. Abrams is also responsible for co-creating ‘Lost’ as well as ‘Alias’. Abrams has also served as an executive producer on the breakout HBO series ‘Westworld’ as well as the upcoming Stephen King based series on Hulu titled ‘Castle Rock’.
In addition to his television work, Abrams has been keeping plenty busy on the film side as well as he will write and direct the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ for Disney and Lucasfilm while also developing a new ‘Star Trek’ movie alongside famed writer and director Quentin Tarantino.
