J.J. Abrams surprised fans on Thursday night with a special trailer for a follow up to Cloverfield that will and in theaters on March 11 …
J.J. Abrams always likes to keep a few surprises up his sleeve and he unleashed a good one on Thursday night during the initial screenings of Michael Bay’s new movie 13 Hours as he debuted a trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane — a ‘blood relative’ to the 2008 found footage alien invasion film Cloverfield.
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield,” Abrams said in a statement on Thursday.. “The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
The movie stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. and while there’s no indication on the exact relation to the original Cloverfield movie, there are definitely ties to the film. How exactly the two films are related won’t be revealed until the 10 Cloverfield Lane lands in theaters on March 11.
Here’s an official synopsis released for the new movie:
“After a car accident, a young woman awakens in an underground cellar, where most of the action takes place. She fears she has been abducted by a survivalist, who tells her he saved her life and that a chemical attack has left the outside world uninhabitable. Uncertain what to believe, she decides she must escape, whatever dangers she may face outside.”
