James Gunn has now revealed the full cast for ‘The Suicide Squad’ as he reboots the story and characters following David Ayer’s movie in 2016…
James Gunn is hard at work on ‘The Suicide Squad’ — his reboot of the story and characters that were first seen in the 2016 movie from director David Ayer.
While that ‘Suicide Squad’ movie did well at the box office, the film was a critical disaster for Warner Bros. and initial plans to produce a sequel were scrapped in favor of hiring Gunn to reboot the entire story.
Now Gunn has revealed the full cast appearing in ‘The Suicide Squad’ including the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn after she was just about the only bright spot from the original film three years ago.
Many of the cast members had previously been confirmed including Idris Elba, who is playing an unknown role in the film, as well as frequent Gunn collaborators like Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker.
Also joining the cast of ‘The Suicide Squad’ is WWE superstar John Cena, who has been making the move into acting much like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did as his professional wrestling career came to a close. Cene is a surprise addition considering rumors that Dave Bautista might team up with Gunn again after they worked well together on the first two ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies.
Here’s the full cast list as revealed by Gunn on Twitter on Friday.

In addition to Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis will also be returning as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, after all four were in the original ‘Suicide Squad’ movie. The rest of the cast from that film will not be returning.
While there have been a lot of questions about ‘The Suicide Squad’ and whether or not it carries on the story started in the last film or not — it has now been confirmed that Gunn is completely rebooting the story with his own original take on the characters and the premise for this particular movie even with some of the same actors returning.
‘The Suicide Squad’ is set to land in theaters on August 6, 2021.
