Jared Leto Returning as The Joker for Zack Snyder’s Cut of ‘Justice League’

Jared Leto will return to play The Joker as part of the reshoots for Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated “Justice League” film headed to HBO Max…

Jared Leto is back at The Joker

After first appearing as the Clown Prince of Crime in 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” Leto was rumored for several other potential films including a spinoff featuring The Joker and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) but those plans never came to fruition.

Now Leto has been included as part of the massive reshoots being staged by director Zack Snyder as he puts together his own cut of “Justice League” that’s due out on HBO Max sometime in 2021.

Leto joins a growing cast of actors returning to film roles for “Justice League” including Ben Affleck coming back at Batman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Amber Heard as Mera.

It’s an interesting twist to Snyder’s cut of the movie because Leto did not appear in the theatrical version of “Justice League” that was originally released in 2017 but that film was ultimately finished by director Joss Whedon following another series of expensive reshoots. At the time, Snyder dropped off the project due to a tragic death in his family, which then forced Warner Bros. to scramble to release the film on time.

That brought Whedon on board but the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator and former “Avengers” director ultimately turned in a movie that became a critical and commercial disaster for Warner Bros and DC.

That led to cries for “The Snyder Cut” to be released with several actors from “Justice League” asking Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to return to finish his vision for the film. While it appeared those requests would never be fulfilled, the launch of HBO Max — the streaming service featuring the DC/Warner Bros. library — led to “The Snyder Cut” going from fantasy to reality.

Now Snyder is putting together a massive four-hour cut of his film that will be released in one hour “episodes” on HBO Max with the studio also affording him a huge budget to reshoot extra scenes that were uncompleted when he left the project.

It’s unknown how much or how little a role Leto will play in the movie but obviously it was enough for the Oscar winner to paint up his face and return to play The Joker at least one more time.

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” will be released on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
