One of the most beloved science fiction comics of all time, Dreadstar, is being developed as a new TV series with creator Jim Starlin on board as a writer and producer…
Jim Starlin — best known as the comic book writer responsible for the creation of several iconic characters including Thanos, Drax the Destroyer as well his work on the iconic series ‘The Infinity Gauntlet — is bringing one of his most beloved books to life as a new TV series. Dreadstar, a comic book series launched in 1982, has been picked up for development by Benderspink and Universal Cable Productions as a potential TV series although no network has been attached as of yet. Dreadstar is based around the character Vanth Dreadstar, who is the last surviving human from the entire Milky Way galaxy, who crosses space with his ship and crew consisting of several members including cyborg sorcerer Syzygy Darklock as they look to stop an ancient war between two factions: The Church of Instrumentality and The Monarchy. The comic book series ran for 64-issues total with Starlin attached as writer for 40 issues before Peter David took over as the new writer until ‘Dreadstar’ came to an end. Starlin is attached to write the pilot for the new series as well as stay on as a producer if the show gets picked up. While no studio has been attached, Benderspink has an overall deal with NBC Universal, which means ‘Dreadstar’ has a really good chance of landing at SyFy if the show ends up getting pushed into production.
