John Carpenter is going home again as he has signed on to produce the upcoming Halloween sequel from Miramax and Blumhouse Productions…
John Carpenter built a career after the success he had on the 1978 horror film Halloween and now almost 40 years later, he’s returning to the franchise as the executive producer on the new film from Miramax and Blumhouse Productions.
Carpenter started the Halloween series along with Debra Hill as one of the most successful independent movies of all time and their monstrous creation Michael Myers helped spawn a slew of sequels as well as a pair of remakes from director Rob Zombie.
Now he will return to the franchise for the first time since writing the original Halloween sequel that was released all the way back in 1981.
“Thirty-eight years after the original Halloween I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” Carpenter said in a statement.
It’s a huge land for the Halloween franchise to have the godfather and creator of the entire series to return to his roots to lend a hand as Miramax and Blumhouse Productions look to relaunch the films for a new generation of horror fans.
Halloween has been one of the most successful horror franchises over the years along with Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, but getting Carpenter back on board for this sequel will already draw a hardcore audience that will anticipate his special touch being added to the film.
There’s no word yet on who might write or direct the project but it sounds like Carpenter is going to have his hands in all facets of the movie as he steps back into the world of Halloween for the first time in more than three decades.
