Following the exit of both J.J. Abrams and Robert Orci, veteran director Justin Lin has stepped in to direct ‘Star Trek 3’….
The carousel of directors at the helm of ‘Star Trek 3’ has finally stopped at Justin Lin, who will lead the popular franchise in its third installment since the reboot of the series in 2009.
The movies were originally kicked off by J.J. Abrams, who had a hand in both the original film and the 2013 sequel, ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’. Unfortunately, Abrams is now tied up with the new ‘Star Wars’ franchise as he puts the finishing touches on ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’, which opens in theaters in December 2015.
The series was then handed over to first time director Roberto Orci, who then bowed out several weeks ago.
Lin takes over the series on the heels of also picking up the job of directing the debut of the new ‘True Detective’ season on HBO as well.
Lin has been in charge of several major projects in the past, but probably most notable for his work on ‘The Fast and the Furious’ series.
‘Star Trek 3’ is expected to land in theaters in 2016.
