Riddick actress Katee Sackhoff is no stranger science fiction roles because she’s already played one of the most iconic characters in television show history when she portrayed Starbuck in the Battlestar Galactica reboot.
This weekend, Sackhoff takes to outer space once again starring alongside Vin Diesel in the new action flick Riddick, which is already projected as being the No. 1 film in American come Monday morning.
In addition to her acting role in Riddick, Sackhoff also stars in the A&E drama Longmire, and will play a part in the new horror film Oculus scheduled for release later this year.
Another role that Sackhoff has played in the past is when she did the voice work for the Star Wars cartoon series The Clone Wars where she played Bo-Katan. Now with the new Star Wars franchise about to relaunch in 2015 with director J.J. Abrams at the help for Episode VII, would Sackhoff have any interest in playing a role in the new film?
Like most actors and actresses, landing a part in Star Wars is always a dream job, and while Sackhoff isn’t sure she’s on the current list for Abrams and the executives at Disney, she hopes maybe her name lands there after Riddick launches this weekend.
“I honestly, it’s one of these things where I would love to do every one of these roles that’s available, and they have a short list of these girls and they don’t seem to deviate yet,” Sackhoff told NerdcoreMovement.com about Star Wars. “So hopefully after Riddick, I’ll be on that short list.”
Sackhoff is no stranger to Abrams past projects because she’s actually auditioned for a few of them, but as of yet she’s never been cast in a show he’s been doing. She would love to change that with a part in Star Wars: Episode VII, but knows either way that Abrams is the right man for the job.
“J.J. (Abrams), I’ve auditioned for everyone of his TV shows and he seems to not be drinking the Kool-Aid,” Sackhoff said with a laugh. “It may work out at some point, you never know I think that he’s an amazing choice for that movie and I’d love to see what he does with that. He’s a great director.”
Sackhoff also recently hinted at a possible role in an upcoming Marvel project when speaking to the Schmoes Know Movies podcast where she stated “there’s been some stuff going on. There’s been a lot of checking of availability, there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year.”
The first quarter of next year could potentially point to Sackhoff landing a role in The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron headed up by director Joss Whedon.
There seems to be quite a buzz around Sackhoff taking on the role of Captain Marvel, and Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito said that the company is exploring the idea of a female led superhero project. He then mentioned Captain Marvel as a potential star.
It seems the Katee Sackhoff business is pretty good right now, and will only be getting better in 2014. Maybe it’s time for J.J. Abrams to make a few calls…
