Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige sounds like he’s ready to hit the ground running once Disney closes their purchase of FOX and regains ownership of the X-Men and numerous other characters…
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s eyes light up like a kid in a candy shop any time he gets the opportunity to talk about the upcoming addition of hundreds of characters — including the X-Men — once Disney’s purchase of FOX is finalized.
The deal is expected to go through in the very near future and once that happens, Marvel Studios will finally retain the rights to characters from the X-Men universe including Wolverine, Deadpool, Magneto, Professor X, as well as the Fantastic Four, Galactus, Doctor Doom and dozens upon dozens more that have been owned by FOX for more than two decades.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has flourished for the past 10 years under Feige’s leadership, he can’t help but turn exuberant when talking about the upcoming addition of all those characters that he will look to incorporate into films as soon as he’s allowed to dabble with them.
“The truth is I’m excited for all of them,” Feige told MTV on the Golden Globes red carpet. “I’m excited and it’s not just the marquee names you know. There are hundreds of names on those documents, on those agreements. The fact that Marvel is as close as we may ever get now to having access to all of the characters, is something I’ve been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel and it’s very exciting.”
Obviously, Feige and all of the executives at Disney have stayed tight lipped on any plans for those FOX owned characters who will soon be returned to the rest of the Marvel Universe but it’s clear ideas have already started to form.
Feige was the mastermind behind the world building that transformed the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a huge, sprawling epic story that intertwined characters together from movie to movie for the first time in history. Each phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought about incredible change with new characters being introduced but the upcoming release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will likely change things forever.
Numerous actors and actresses are expected to exit the Marvel Cinematic Universe after that film debuts in May — including Chris Evans, who has already said he’s finished playing Captain America — so it couldn’t come at a better time that Feige will be able to incorporate the X-Men, Fantastic Four and other characters into his world building for the next 10 years.
Once the FOX sale is finalized, expect Feige to start moving quickly to embark on some ambitious plans to bring the X-Mean and dozens of other characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
