Kevin Smith talks about a supposed ‘Batman V. Superman’ script he wrote, Clerks III funding and a movie poster for his film ‘Tusk’…
There have been rumors flying around the internet (because that’s what the internet does best) that Kevin Smith was involved in a fake script plot hatched by the producers and writers behind ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ to throw off information seeking reporters digging for a scoop.
Smith has spoken candidly in the past few months about his excitement about the project because he’s just about the biggest Batman fan this side of Gotham City and he got a sneak peek of the suit that his old pal Ben Affleck will be wearing in the film long before director Zack Snyder gave us all a black and white version a couple of months ago.
As much as Smith would enjoy being involved on the project, the rumors just aren’t true as the writer/director addressed the story on his blog this week.
“No major studio would let a guy like me near their franchises – even if it was for a dummy script meant solely to fool the news sites,” Smith wrote. “No, anything I’ve said about “Milo and Sage” was based on an image Zack showed me while hosting a MAN OF STEEL online event at Yahoo many months back. The little I know of the flick beyond that I learned from some cats involved (though never BatFleck himself; as I’ve said a few times now on the Babble-On podcast, beyond email, I haven’t spoken to Ben in years). Fun story, though.”
On another side of Smith movie news, the New Jersey born director also revealed this week that his long time producers the Weinstein brothers passed on funding his upcoming sequel, Clerks III, although they did still offer distribution for the movie once it’s made. Smith didn’t sound particularly miffed about their decision to decline working on the new film together, but now it leaves about a $6 million hole for the creator and his team to find to make the film.
Via @Kitties4every1 "Will Clerks 3 still be made?" Heavens yes, just not with the Weinsteins' money. And all involved are okay with this.

On a much better note, Smith also revealed the poster to his latest film ‘Tusk’, which is a horror movie based on a SModCast episode of his long running podcast alongside Scott Mosier about a lonely man who kidnaps a guy while forcing him to wear a walrus suit for his pleasure. It’s as whacked out as the premise sounds, yet in Smith’s hands this should be quite the film going experience.
He will debut the trailer for ‘Tusk’ on Friday, July 25 at San Diego Comic Con
