Writer/director Kevin Smith will begin production on his next film titled ‘Yoga Hosers’ alongside Johnny Depp, who is set to star in the movie…
After almost retiring from filmmaking all together a few years ago, writer/director Kevin Smith has been busier than ever lately with his latest movie projects. In September he’ll debut his newest horror film titled ‘Tusk’ starring Justin Long and Michael Parks, and on the heels of that film he’s already lined up for his next movie set in Canada.
Smith’s new film is titled ‘Yoga Hosers’ based loosely (just like ‘Tusk’) on an episode of his popular podcast titled SModCast that he does along with longtime friend and producer Scott Mosier.
The movie also stars Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith along with Depp’s daughter Lily Rose-Depp in the lead roles as two 15-year old yoga obsessed girls who encounter the ultimate evil rising up from the depths of Canada while preparing for their 12th grade dance in high school.
“People always ask me ‘Are you ever going to make a comic book movie?’” Smith said when speaking to THR. “This is it – but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two fifteen year old girls.”
Depp will star in the film as man-hunter Guy LaPointe, who teams up with the girls to take down the evil force looking to take over the world starting with Canada. There’s also a rumor that Depp will originate the role in Smith’s film ‘Tusk’ in a surprise part, although there won’t be any confirmation until the movie opens next month.
Almost the entire crew from ‘Tusk’ will also take starring roles in ‘Yoga Hosers’ as well with the following cast members being announced — Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein, Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes.
Principle photography kicked off on the film this week with a debut date likely for mid-2015.
